Finish steel companies update on nationwide strike impact

As the political strike in Finland was extended for the second time, bringing it to four weeks, the economic impact on the country's steel companies continues mounting.

Major steelmakers in Finland updated their forecast again on how the entire month of industrial actions will affect their Q1/2024 performance. Supply tensions will also continue rising in the European stainless steel market. The shortage will, on the one hand, allow the remaining flat product makers to accelerate their price increase campaign. But on the other hand, the longer duration of the strike could start hurting end-users in Europe, who will not be able to replace the missing volumes quickly.
