Trump new tariffs: disruption or boost for U.S. industry?
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has promised to impose additional tariffs on all imports from the country's major trade partners, Canada, Mexico, and China. How real is the threat?
The new tariffs could be introduced on January 20, 2025, when Trump takes office. They are allegedly part of an aggressive strategy to curb illegal immigration and drug trafficking. While some highly praise the move, many warn it could lead to severe economic and geopolitical consequences, reigniting fears of trade wars and ending the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) free trade agreement.
